Samagi SC sue SLC
Sandasen MARASINGHE
Samagi Sports Club has sued the Sri Lanka Cricket before the Colombo
District Court alleging that the decision by the Sri Lanka Cricket to
ban it from participating in the Donovn Trophy for one Season (2009/10)
was illegal.
President and Secretary of the Samagi Sports Club of Puttalam
respectively Athula Nishantha and L.S. Rupus filing the plaint before
the Colombo District Court cited 12 including Chairman of Interim
Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket D.S.de Silva.
The plaintiffs stated that the Sri Lanka Cricket through a letter
dated September 18, 2009 banned their team taking part in the Donovn
Trophy for 2009/10 season. The Committee also proposed to refrain from
promoting Samagi Sports Club to participate in the Sara Tournament and
withdraw prize money allocated to the winners.
The plaintiffs prayed before the Court to declare that the decision
taken by the Sri Lanka Cricket was illegal and allow them to take part
in the tournament.
Kuvera de Zoysa appearing for defence stated that Sri Lanka Cricket
followed the proper procedure to impose the ban on Samagi Sports Club.
Attorney Darmawardene appeared for the plaintiffs. |
