Dhamma Schools help build disciplined society

The Daham Pasal system which helps build a disciplined society has received a major boost under the Mahinda Chintana program, said Urban Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake.

He was addressing a meeting at the Matale Divisional Secretariat Auditorium to handover appointment letters to Daham Pasal teachers in Matale recently.

Dissanayake said 9,211 Buddhist Dhamma Schools (Daham Pasal) operated throughout the country serving a student population of 1,825,663 with a total teaching staff of 114,308.

The Daham Pasal sector had received an impetus from Mahinda Chintana which paid special attention to the development of moral and spiritual values. Referring to the handing over of appointment letters, Dissanayake said they could arrange programs of this nature without hassle due to the services rendered by the President, Security Forces and Police to defeat terrorism and establish peace in the country.

A batch of 348 Daham Pasal teachers including members of the Sangha received appointment letters at this ceremony.
