FAO defends research and new technologies

Italy: In order to increase world agricultural production it is necessary to promote research and development, as well as to adopt new technologies, shows a document of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

According to FAO estimates, in 2050 the planet will be inhabited by 2.3 billion more persons than at present, therefore the need to produce more food.

To increase yield and intensity of farming in the existing lands, we must achieve an increment, of at least 90 percent in production. Another 10 percent will be achieved by extending the farming areas. In developing countries, FAO plans that this rate will be of 80/20.
