FAO defends research and new technologies
Italy: In order to increase world agricultural production it
is necessary to promote research and development, as well as to adopt
new technologies, shows a document of the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO).
According to FAO estimates, in 2050 the planet will be inhabited by
2.3 billion more persons than at present, therefore the need to produce
more food.
To increase yield and intensity of farming in the existing lands, we
must achieve an increment, of at least 90 percent in production. Another
10 percent will be achieved by extending the farming areas. In
developing countries, FAO plans that this rate will be of 80/20.
