KSC looking to play an int'l rugby tourney

Kandy Sports Club is looking into the possibility of conducting an international Rugby tournament in kandy later this year.

This move will be welcomed by the rugby fans in all parts of the country as the ten- year old singer SriLankan. International Rugby seven was not held in Kandy this year for many reasons.

The International Rugby Sevens in Kandy was first playes in 1998 at the Bogambara Stadium to mark the 125th anniversary celebrations of Kandy Sports Club.

This tournament was such a roaring success that Jamie Scott of the Asian Rugby Football Union who watched this tournament recommended to International Rugby Board (IRB) to upgrade this tournament as a world cup qualifier for the Asian Region.

Later it was a satellite tournament for the Asian region.

Now all that is history, the formality for a new tournament is being worked off.

'This project is still in the discussion stage and more details will be disclosed later', said Iswan Omar of Kandy Sports Club.
