New Act protects consumers

The new Act Electricity Board Act No. 20 of 2009 is designed to ensure the protection of the rights of the consumers while providing them with maximum service and benefits.

The Act also has done away with the monopoly status enjoyed by the CEB, said Public Utilities Commission Deputy Director General Damitha Kumarasinghe.

The Public Utilities Commission has been entrusted with the task of implementing the new Electricity Board Act which replaces the 59-year Electricity Board Act which was subject to seven amendments. He was addressing members of the Kandy Chamber of Commerce at a special awareness workshop at the Bake House Auditorium in Dalada Veediya.
