Sailors do well in Karate

Sri Lanka Navy's men and women came out with flying colours at the National Karate Championship-2009 organized by the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Association. Sailors competing in different weight categories won four (4) Gold, five (5) Silver and six (6) Bronze medals at this championships held recently at the Torrington Indoor Gymnasium.

In a fine exhibition of skill and talent Naval men and women succeeded in winning weight class events out shinning many reputed sportsmen.

The Navy Karate Pool formed in 2004 had in the past won many medals both at local and International events. Naval sportsmen representing the National Pool won one gold,one silver and two bronze medals at the South Asian Karate Championship in 2006.

Naval karatekas were the runners up at the Defence Services Sports in 2007 and 2008.
