Air Force in 1-0 win over Old Bens

Sri Lanka Air Force came out as victors over Old Bens SC in a Dialog
Champions League soccer encounter played at City Football League ground
yesterday.Though the Airmen won this game it was not a match that
produced good soccer from both teams.
Air Force had full control in the first fifteen minutes but the
strikers failed to find the right target to put them in front.
Air Force had bad luck when one of their defenders had to leave the
field with referee G. N. Robesh showing the red card for rough play, in
the 20th minute.
Airmen from there onwards had to hold the fort with ten men, but
continued to trouble the opponents at every moment.
All their efforts were fruitless and lemons were taken with a blank
score sheet.
Old Bens in the second session showed some signs of improvement in
their tactics and were seen going on the attack but could not get past
the custodian to score. This resulted in play getting hotter as both
teams made every effort to score to take the most wanted lead.
Airmen struck their first goal with ten minutes away from the full
time, 1-0.
Disaster came in the way for Old Bens in the 87th minute with A. R.
Menake Isidore getting the marching orders from the referee.
The balance few minutes passed with Airmen holding on to their lead
to take the victory - 1-0. |
