The UPFA aims at winning the Southern Provincial Council elections
with a majority of 90 percent and there is no one to challenge its
victory, UPFA leader contesting the Southern Provincial Council Election
from Matara district and former SPC Minister Hemal Gunasekara said.
The people in the province have placed tremendous confidence in the
President and the Government, he said.
He was speaking at election rallies at Talalla, Pathegama and Na-otunna
areas in Devinuwara recently.
He said the Southern Provincial Council election was immensely
important.
The attention of the whole country is focused on this election to see
how the people in the South would respond to the war victory, he said.
Voters will ensure a convincing victory for the UPFA to show the
country that they firmly approved the actions of President Rajapaksa's
Government, he added.
The UPFA recorded resounding victories at the recently held
Provincial Council elections and the peace loving people in the South
will give unprecedented support to the Government at this election,
Gunasekara said.
The war heroes' victory is not only a defeat of LTTE terrorism but
also an act of reviving national pride. This is a unique achievement for
a country.
"We should remember that reactionary forces were trying to discredit
the Government locally and internationally by obstructing development
and the country's forward march.
"All patriotic citizens should understand this situation and
safeguard the hard won freedom by ensuring a UPFA victory at the up
coming Southern Provincial Council election," he said. |
