Jaffna entrepreneur awarded at CNCI

An entrepreneur from Jaffna won a special award at the CNCI Achiever Awards ceremony for the first time in the eight years history of Achievers Awards. The proprietor of Vesta Industries K Sundaralingam was this record maker who manufactures cordials, coffee, tea, jams, sweets and toffees.

Sundaralingam told Daily News Business that he started the business thirty years ago and continued it with the greatest difficulties during the war time. It was only because the war ended he got this opportunity to receive a special award and he is encouraged to get higher level awards in the future.

Sundaralingam said that his business is doing much better now and he has increased the number of employees from the initial forty. He distributes his products to Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee and other nearby areas.

The CNCI Chairman said that this is the first time that applications were received from Jaffna and Vavuniya and one received an award.

He hoped that many more applicants would come forward from the North and the East next year.
