Chinese Women's Federation pledges support to Lanka
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa on a six day visit to China on the
invitation of the All-China Women's Federation met Vice Chairperson of
the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Chen Zhili and
the President of the All-China Women's Federation on September 7 at the
Great Hall of the People in Beijing. While recalling the cordial
relation that exist between China and Sri Lanka, Madam Chen Zhili
appreciated the various tasks steered by the First Lady for the benefit
and welfare of the women and children, specially for the internally
displaced people of the Northern part of the country.
The All-China Women's Federation pledged material which would include
computers, sewing machines worth of RMB 500,000 (US$ 73,500) for the Sri
Lankan women.
Explaining the programs aimed at developing the skills of women which
are under way in Sri Lanka, Madam Rajapaksa appreciated the assistance
given by the Chinese Government. The meeting was preceded by detailed
discussions held between the members of the Sri Lankan delegation and
the senior officials of the All-China Women's Federation on issues
related to women's development, children's welfare, legal affairs,
publicity and other specialized subject areas.
