Textbooks in firewood shed:
Ministry to conduct own investigation
Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
The Education Ministry in addition to police investigations, has
launched its own investigations into the alleged misconduct of a
distributor of school textbooks, Education Publications Commissioner,
W.M.N.J. Pushpa Kumara told the Daily News.
He said a large quantity of school textbooks meant for distribution
among students next year have been found by police neatly concealed in a
fire-wood shed near a house in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala.
The police had raided the place following a tip-off and a suspect has
been taken into custody along with the textbooks.
Pushpa Kumara said the Education Ministry has employed outside
transporters to transport school textbooks.
“Probably this may be the result of a misconduct on the part of one
of the transporters. The details will be revealed by the investigations
which are now being conducted,” Pushpa Kumara said.
Considering the issue as a matter concerning the future of the
younger generation, tough action would be taken against persons found
guilty of such malpractice, Education Ministry spokesman said.
