Chandrasena brings Chandra Mandaley

Are you a Sinhala music lover? If so keep the evening of September 26, free. Celebrating 30 years in his singing career, Chandrasena Hettiarachchi is organizing an evening of entertainment on the said day at the National Youth Services Council Maharagama.

Hettiarachchi entered the field of music with his debut stage performance in 1979.

He has participated in the Kegalle District regional competitions for the Youth Awards Competition, organized by the National Youth Services Council in 1980. He has studied music at the Belwood Aesthetic Academy of the National Youth Services Council, Maharagama. Hettiarachchi was awarded the 'Best Vocalist' in 1980 at the Youth Awards Competition. His songs include "Aatha hamaa yana mada sulange" and "seethe kandu yaaye".

The musical extravaganza which will be held on the 26th of September will commence at 7pm and will be at the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), Maharagama.

The key address for the event will be by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne and Victor Rathnayake.

Sunflower Band along with Niel Warnakulasooriya will provide accompaniment for the concert, while Chandraleka Perera, Sashika Nisansala, Subhani Harshani Muthukumarana will be performing duets with Chandrasena Hettiarachchi. Backup singers will include Chandraleka Perera, Somasiri Medagedara, Prince udaya Priyantha, Wijayabandara Welithuduwa, Chandana Liyanaarachchi, Roy Peiris, Dhammika Karunaratne and Theja Damayanthi Amarasinghe.

Twenty five to thirty songs of Hettiarachchi's will be performed during this show while prominence will be given to his older songs. The Police Eastern Band too will perform at this event.

Entrance is free of charge; however, prior invitations are needed to enter the premises.

Invitations can be obtained from the Cultural Centre of the National Youth Services Council or the Belwood Association.

In addition invitations can be obtained by post by writing to Chandrasena Hettiarachchi, National Youth Services Council, Maharagama.

Deputy Chairperson of SLT Vijitha Rathnayake, Former Minister R. A. D. Sirisena, Ananda Wickramasinghe of the National Youth Services Council and invitees were present at the press briefing held for this event.

A symbolic cheque was given by Deputy Chairperson for SLT, Vijitha Rathnayake to acknowledge the sponsorship by Sri Lanka Telecom.

Vijitha Rathnayake, Former Minister R. A. D. Sirisena, Ananda Wickramasinghe and Upali Gunasinghe addressed the press.

It was stated that Chandrasena Hettiarachchi is willing to conduct this show voluntarily again for social service purpose, if the need arises.

Somasiri Medagedara addressed the gathering and concluded the press briefing by displaying his vocal talent.

Sri Lanka Telecom will be the main sponsor for this event.

The organizing committee has made special arrangements to accommodate as many people as possible and thereby the concert will cater to an audience of 2500- 3000.

They are also open to the taking this concert to other parts of the country which will able so many others to experience this event and be a part of the celebration.

So, if Chandrasena Hettiarachchi makes your kind of music be there and be a part of this evening of celebration, after all thirty years definitely calls for a celebration.
