Senior Women Spikers for Asian Championship

The Sri Lankan women spikers left the island to compete at the Asian
Senior Women's Volleyball Championship to be held in Vietnam. The team
led by M.C. Damayanthi comprise of eleven more players. The tournament
which commenced yesterday will come to a close on September 13.

Rohan Somawansa accompanied the team as Chef-de. Mission while the
other officials are Yushisuke Ikeda (Coach), S.L.A. Sumith (Asst.
Coach), Nayana Anupama Jayaratne (Trainer) and Preethi Lal Abeysinghe
(Intl. Referee).
The Championship is competed by sixteen teams including the host
country Vietnam. The participating teams are China, Japan, Korea, Hong
Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and
Chinese Taipei.
In 2007 the championship was held in Thailand, Sri Lanka was placed
tenth in the rankings. This year the Lanka team has improved immensely
and hope to reach a higher position in the ranking. According to coach
few senior players and player who are with foreign exposure are included
in the team to strengthen its power.
This we hope could bring us good results.
