Security Forces continuing mopping up operations in liberated areas
found a stock of arms and ammunition on Thursday which were left behind
by the LTTE.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the Task Force
engaged in an extensive search operation in the Puthukudiyiruppu area,
recovered a cache of weapons on Thursday during clearing operations.
Troops recovered 5,000 T56 ammunition, 1,000 electric detonators, six
claymore mines, two 60mm bombs, nine booby traps, 110m detonating card
and three unidentified bombs.
Meanwhile, troops of the 57 division found 13 hand grenades, four AP
mines, two 12.7mm ammunition link with ammunition and eight 60mm bombs
during search operations in Adampan and Vishvamadu.
Troops also recovered 12 RPG bombs, 220 of 12.7mm rounds and six hand
grenades from Udayarkattukulam.
