Distribution of clutches, wheelchairs

The free distribution of 10 wheel chairs and 20 clutches among disabled soldiers will be held at the Sri Sudarshanarama Viharaya in Siyambalape, Biyagama today at 2.00 p.m. under the patronage of Senior DIG and Police Media Spokesperson Nimal Mediwake.

A consignment of wheelchairs are also to be donated to the Udupila Government Hospital, Kanduboda Ayurveda Hospital and Colombo Police Hospital.

The distribution ceremony of wheelchairs and clutches is organised by Meegahawatta Police OIC IP Sreenika Sanjeewa Jayakody.


Book launch

The launching ceremony of the book Mahindagamanayata Pera Srilankeeya Wansa Kathawa written by Jeevana Suranga Gamage, a final year student of Sri Jayawardanepura University will be held on September 17 at 3 pm at the Prof. Balagalle Hall of the Sri Jayawardanepura University.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Karunaratne will be the chief guest.


Chairs for societies

Chairman, Bulathsinhala Pradeshiya Sabha Thusitha Kularatne has taken steps to provide plastic chairs to all benefit societies and death donation societies in Bulathsinhala Pradeshiya Sabha area.

For the provisions of plastic chairs, 54 societies have been selected. Nearly Rs. 1 million has been allocated from the PS funds. The first stock of chairs was distributed to the respective organisations last month.


Noble men felicitated

Twelve war heroes who dedicated their lives to defend the nation from terrorism and seven persons who rendered yeomen services to the village of Madurawala in Anguruwatota during the past years were felicitated by the Madurawala Benefit Organisation by awarding special mementos at a meeting held at Madurawala divisional secretariat recently.

W.K.A. Indika

Army private W.K.A. Indika of Rahathangama, Buttala is suffering from acute renal failure and specialist doctor R.D. Lanarolle of Colombo National Hospital, who is treating him has recommended an immediate kidney transplant to save his life.

His father requests a kidney donor with O+ Positive type to contact them.

They request the public to help them financially to continue treatment for the patient. Financial contribution can be directed to People’s Bank, Wellawaya Branch, A/C No. 062200117820812 under the name W.K.A. Indika.


Religious leader’s visit

Adnan Kabbani

His Holiness Sheikh Muhammad Adnan Kabbani will visit the country from September 10 to 22.

He is a renowned religious scholar and author who has devoted his life to the promotion of traditional Islamic principles, such as peace, tolerance and opposing extremism in all its forms. He holds a degree in Islamic Divine Law and under the tutelage of Sheikh ‘Abd Allah Daghestani license to teach, guide and counsel religious students in Islamic spirituality from Sulthan al Awliya Sheikh Muhammad Nazim ‘Adil al-Qubrusi al-Haqqani an-Naqshbandi, the world leader of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi Order.

Sheikh Adnan will be residing at 24,28th Lane, Off flower Rd, Colombo 7 and will have daily Zikr, Isha and Taraweeh prayers from 8.30 pm. Contact 0773476806 or 0772660129 for details.


Robbed at gun point

An unidentified armed gang had broken into the cooperative fuel filling station at Mutugaswewa, Galewela, threatened its Manageress and another employee and had fled away with over Rs. 168,000 cash found in the safe.

There had been similar heists in Galewela, Naula, Matale and Dambulla during the last few months and one robber gang was arrested earlier.


Resettlement of Muslim families

Four hundred Muslim families will be shortly resettled in the Muslim village of Salampaikulam in Vavuniya, Northern Province Governor Major General G.A Chandrasiri assured the villagers.

The Governor gave this assurance during a visit to meet the displaced persons in Salampaikulam village.
