Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has decided to develop
Renewable Energy resources and declare energy development areas to
implement energy efficiency measures and conservation programs to
promote energy security, reliability and cost effectiveness in energy
delivery and information management. It has also decided to initiate
National Energy Efficiency Award 2009 - 2010.
The objective of the award is to bestow national recognition to the
energy consumers in the sub sectors of manufacturing, services and
healthcare, who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient
utilization, conservation and management of energy and have achieved
substantial result, benefits during a period under review. Three winners
from each category will be awarded cash prices. SLSEA will assist the
winners to improve their energy efficiency by conducting capacity
building programs for relevant staff here and abroad, helping to conduct
energy audits, acting as a guarantor to obtain loans at special rates.
Additionally, consumer will naturally win the recognition as an
institution committed to conserve energy. If consumer is an exporter the
award will be a window to enter the green market especially in Europe
since the energy conservation is an international norm.
SLSEA intends to widen the horizons of its existing Energy
Conservation Award meant only for government organizations, to
incorporate the private sector and to conduct the same as a prestigious
annual national event. Through the program SLSEA envisages prompting
energy users to embrace energy efficiency improvement opportunities made
available by the SLSEA or by various other sources.
