Charcoal factory on way

Top level Chinese businessmen have decided to establish a factory to
make coconut related products in the island under the direction of the
Chinese Government.

According to the Plantation Industries Ministry media sources, the
businessmen have made a number of proposals on the matter to the
Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne at the Ministry on last
Tuesday.
Initially, a factory for processing charcoal from coconut shells will
be established. In addition, the company is ready to start other
products derived from coconut.
In a special statement issued after having a discussion with business
delegates the Minister said the investment will create more
opportunities to increase foreign earnings of the country.
Priority will be given to expand employment opportunities to the
unemployed youth, he said.
The Minister asked the Chinese business delegation to focus attention
on coconut derivative products such as the coir industry. The Land
Reclamation and Development Board Chairman Karunasena Hettiarachchi also
participated at this discussion. |
