Africa, LatAm prepare co-op programs
Venezuela: The Second South America-Africa Summit, to be held on
September 26-27 in Margarita Island, Venezuela, is expected to discuss a
cooperation program with guests from Central America and the Caribbean,
according to press reports.
In remarks to Venezuelan media in Tripoli, where he is taking part in
the special summit of the African Union, Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez confirmed the broad agenda of the meeting, including the proposal
of a regional bank.
According to Chavez, this is a golden opportunity to discuss urgent
proposals and find solutions in order to strengthen unity, freedom and
development of African and Latin American peoples and bring their
economic systems closer.
The projection includes a rapprochement of structures of oil and gas
firms from the two regions, as well as joint efforts in industrial
development and the production of food and medicine. The agenda of the
summit of Margarita Island, in the Venezuelan Caribbean, includes
actions in the education field to articulate universities and
institutions, as well as the analysis of variants to replace the dollar
as hard currency.
The organization of the South America-Africa summit by Venezuela is
part of the projection of Venezuela’s foreign policy to support the
strengthening of a multi-polar world.
