A random search of a vehicle at a police checkpoint along the Piliyandala - Bandaragama Road led to the arrest of a notorious robber gang wanted in connection with a spate of robberies.

According to Police Media spokesman, Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka, Police personnel at the checkpoint had stopped a car traveling to Bandaragama with two occupants on Saturday around 10.05 pm. As the two occupants were acting suspiciously, Police had searched the car and its occupants.
