The Criminal Investigations Department, the Terrorist Investigation
Division and intelligence sleuths investigating suicide blasts by the
LTTE targeting politicians and other VIPs, which remained a mystery for
years, are in the process of completing the investigations with
revelations by Tiger cadres arrested after the defeat of the LTTE three
months back.
CID and TID sources confirmed that the assassination attempt on the
former Army Commander and the present Chief of Defence General Sarath
Fonseka has already been completed as vital information regarding the
internal link to the LTTE from the Army Headquarters, has been divulged
by a senior Tiger cadre who had been arrested when mingling with
civilians in the IDP camps.
According to the sources, it has been revealed that a cook who was
serving at the Commander’s residence within the Army Headquarters and
from the days Fonseka was serving as the Security Forces Commander
Jaffna, had helped the LTTE to have free access to the Army Headquarters
and send a female suicide cadre into the Army Headquarters.
The LTTE had made use of the passes given to the cook’s wife when he
was undergoing treatment at the Army Hospital after a road accident, to
have free access to the Army Headquarters and the hospital.
It has been confirmed that it was the cook who had made the final
phone call to the female suicide cadre who was awaiting the motorcade of
the Army Commander opposite the Army Hospital to pass the information
that the Army Commander had left the Army Headquarters to reach his
residence for lunch.
The CID and the TID have been able to expose these vital links after
the arrest of the handler of many suicide cadres, recently within the
Colombo city.
The names of those Tiger cadres cannot be divulged as it would hamper
investigations.
Sources said it has been revealed that Superintendent of Police
Lakshman Cooray who was arrested by the TID recently, had helped the
LTTE to carry out many suicide assassination in Colombo and in the
South.
Investigations have revealed that the SP had earned billions of
rupees from the LTTE for taking suicide cadre’s safely to the location.
Investigations have revealed that attempts to assassinate President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Godapitiya suicide blast, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle
assassination, the suicide attempts on Minister Maitripala Sirisena at
Boralesgamuwa and in Polonnaruwa and Digampatana suicide blast have been
supported by SP Cooray.
Following revelations made by SP Cooray and Tiger cadres who were
operating in Colombo and from welfare camps had helped them completing
the investigations of many other assassinations by the LTTE. These also
include the assassinations of former President Ranasinghe Premadasa,
former Minister Gamini Dissanayake, Major General Janaka Perera and
several others.
Many investigations on the assassinations committed by the LTTE are
expected to be completed within the next few weeks with the arrest of
many other terror links in the South, the sources added. |
