Uva Highlands and St. James Estates:

All-time record prices

Uva Highlands Estate, Bandarawela and St James Estate, Hali Ela managed by Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC, surpassed the previous all time record price of Rs 1,500 per kilogram for a Uva BOP grade, when two lines of flavoury teas from these estates attracted prices of Rs 2,010 and Rs. 1,800 per kilogram at the Colombo Tea Auctions held on August 12.

This was the first occasion in the history of Ceylon tea, a line of Uva BOP was sold above Rs 2,000 per kilogram establishing a new all time record price for this grade at this Auction Centre.

Having witnessed some aggressive bidding among several top tea buyers, the Uva Highlands BOP line was purchased by Tea Ceylon Tea Marketing ( Pvt ) Ltd whilst the St James line was sold to Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC.

The sale was successfully conducted by John Keells PLC.
