Old Boys cricket quadrangular in Kandy

The 42nd annual Old Boys Quadrangular Cricket\Basketball Tournament conducted by the Old boys of the catholic schools St.Benedict's, St. Joseph's, St. Anthony's Katugasthota and St.Peter's will be hosted this year in Kandy, by the Anthonians today and tomorrow.

The main quadrangular semi finals will take place on August 22nd when the Old Anthonians take on the Old Peterites at Katugasthota and the Old Bens meet the Old Joes at the Peradeniya Campus grounds. Both matches are 50 overs per side and is scheduled to start at 10 am.

In the veterans over 40 semi finals (25 overs) the Old Anthonians will meet Old Peterites at the Police grounds at 9.30 am while the Old Bens will confront the Old Joes at 2.00 pm at the same venue. The semi finals of the basketball tournament will take place on the first day (22nd August) and the finals(cricket & basketball) will be played on Sunday 23rd at Katugasthota. Ranjith Samarsekera, the former Colts CC captain and a distinguished old Anthonian, who presided over a press briefing held at the Old Bens Sports Club pavilion with regard to the tournament, said that the quadrangular tournament was the brain child of the Old Bens initiated for the OBU's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Variuos schools were invited to play in a tournament. However, only three catholic schools responded positively to the invitation. Hence, St. Anthony's College which is 155 years old , followed by St. Benedict's , St.Joseph's and St.Peter's took part from the initial year in 1963.
