Houses for disabled naval personnel
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa yesterday handed over 20 houses and a
community hall constructed by Managing Director of the OASIS Hospital
and President of Institute of Technological Studies Dr. E.M.S.
Edirisinghe at Walahanduwa, Galle for disabled naval personnel.
This project which cost Rs. 22.5 million was launched by Edirisinghe
who himself was a naval officer to mark the 25th anniversary of the
Institute of Technological Studies on the request of former Naval
Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda.
The Institute of Technological Studies in association with the Troy
University of USA has produced thousands of graduates n the fields of
Information Technology and Management. This year also marks the 10th
anniversary of the establishment of the OASIS Hospital.
These housing units each valued at over Rs. 990,000 were built within
a very short time by the personal supervision of Dr. Edirisinghe who
thought it fit to share in the success with the Sri Lanka Navy by this
magnanimous gesture at a time when the Security Forces have succeeded in
eradicating the scourge terrorism in the country.
The Sri Lanka Navy has also provided land, water, electricity and
landscaping which has in effect made this project to stand above all
other housing project in the vicinity.
