SLAF, the best air wing - Defence Secretary

The Sri Lanka Air Force is the best air wing in the world in terms of combating terrorism.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa

Speaking as Chief Guest at the passing out ceremony of Sri Lanka Air Force cadets and volunteer airmen at China Bay yesterday, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka is the only country that eradicated terrorism.

“Security Forces gave their biggest contribution to accomplish lasting peace in the country,” Rajapaksa said. He said the passing out SLAF cadets and airmen were bold to enlist in the SLAF at a time the Government was fighting against the LTTE.

“The LTTE has been defeated and your duty is now to protect the nation from any harm,” he said.

The Defence Secretary asserted that the SLAF is the best air wing in the world. “I’m glad that you are passing out from an air wing that paid the highest contribution to defeat the LTTE. The SLAF is the best Air Force in the world when comparing to other countries which are armed with sophisticated technology and other resources,” he said.

The airmen and officers have a responsibility and duty to ensure the peace which was achieved after three decades of hardwork and sacrifice,” Rajapaksa said. Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetilleke also participated.
