Sarananda Maha Pirivena and Peradeniya Sri Sarananda Vidyayatana
Pirivena completes 60 years of Bhikkhu life on August 26.
Born in 1939 at Girambe, Polgahawela Ven. Ananda thera was ordained
as a Samanera Bhikkhu on August 26, 1949 as a pupil of Ven.
Siyambalangamuwe Sri Gunaratana Anunayake thera of the Ramanna Nikaya.
Ever since he rendered a great religious, educational and social service
following in the footsteps of his teacher.
The Sarananda Pirivena he started at Peradeniya has churned out
thousands of educated and disciplined citizens. He also started a
Sarananda Pirivena in Anuradhapura which has earned fame as a leading
seat of learning in the area.
The 88 cubit Samadhi Buddha statue and cave temple at the
Anuradhapura Sarananda Pirivena grounds is a monument to Ven. Girambe
Ananda thera's creative ideas and vision. He has set up a 105 roomed
pilgrims rest in memory of his teacher named Sri Gunaratana Vishrama
Shala for the benefit of pilgrims visiting Atamasthanaya. His Dayakas
and students have organized a series of religious ceremonies at the Sri
Sarananda Pirivena to invoke blessings on him for good health and long
life.
