Tremendous potential for growth :

Sharp increase in Sri Lanka, Malaysia trade

Trade between Malaysia and Sri Lanka showed a positive increase last year.

"Malaysia is keen on investing in Sri Lanka especially with the current positive outlook with the defeat of terrorism after May.

The Government of Malaysia is ready to participate in the economic development in the sectors where Malaysia has the know-how and expertise such as infrastructure development, telecommunication, oil and gas industry," said High Commissioner for Malaysia to Sri Lanka, Rosli Ismail at the fifth Annual Business Awards of the Sri Lanka - Malaysia Business Council on Tuesday.

"Malaysia has already invested US$ 300 million since 2007 in Sri Lanka and moreover trade between the two countries had shown a positive increase last year with a trade value at US$ 400 million. There is much potential to increase the volume of trade between the two countries since Sri Lanka's economy is stable and there is tremendous potential for growth", he said.

The Sri Lanka - Malaysia Business Council should take the opportunity to enhance trade ties, business connections, investments and joint ventures between the two countries. This year there will be better opportunities to promote mutual trade and investments between Sri Lanka to Malaysia", he said.

Chairman, Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Nayana Dehigama said, "A successful business is an investment. It was important to pick up the opportunities afforded to us. Even when there were constraints such as the global economic downturn, creativity and innovation could bring success to businessmen and entrepreneurs. That was the reason how the Epic Lanka group achieved solutions in the ICT industry in Sri Lanka as well as to expand its operations to Malaysia and now to Australia".

Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., won the Entrepreneur of the year for the third consecutive year and has also won 13 national and international awards. In as effort of making it a global brand Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., has taken the initiative to achieve success.
