Maliyadeva Girls School under 15 soccer champions

Maliyadeva Girls School, Kurunegala under 15 girls Soccer team emerged all Island champions by beating Kurunegala Lakdas Maha Vidyalaya 4-3 in penalty shoot out in the finals played at Torrington grounds recently.

Sixteen (16) Girls Soccer teams islandwide took part at this tournament. This was organised by the Sri Lanka Soccer Federation in association with the "Holcim Company Ltd."

Maliyadeva Girls School is one of the leading girls schools in the NWP, introduced Soccer to the school with a short period (1/2 Year back) proved there ability by winning this all-island title 2009.

To promote any sports in the school it must have the backing of the school authorities. Sport loving principal, Mrs. Vajira Kumarihamy together with S. Wejithunga (Deputy Principal-Sports), Mrs. Bandara Menike (PTI), Mrs. A. M. Somawathie (Teacher-in-charge) and the coach ex-police office

A. N. Rathnayake of Lakdas MV won the best player award while S. Sewwandi of Maliyadeva Girls College won the best Goal Keeper award.

C. De Silva SSP Director of Sports in the Police Department was the chief guest on this occasion and gave away the awards. Mrs. Olivia Gamage, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Women's Soccer Federation was the guest of honour.
