Asian shuttle titles for Hong Kong and Thailand

Hong Kong and Thailand clinched the boys and girls title respectively at the Asian Youth Under-16 badminton team championships concluded at S. Thomas' College indoor stadium in Mount Lavinia yesterday.

The favourites Hong Kong continued with their outstanding form and outplayed Malaysia two nil in the final encounter where they took both the opening singles quite convincingly.

In contrast Thailand went through some anxious moment before defeating Malaysia 2-1 in the girls tournament final. The title was decided on the doubles fixture after both teams won a singles match each.

Sri Lanka and the Philippines who were beaten in the semi finals bagged the bronze medal in the girls championship while India and Singapore took the bronze medal in the boys tournament.

Meanwhile the boys and girls individual championships will commence today at the same venue with the finals and the awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday.
