Face-lift for over 110 estate hospitals

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has made arrangements to upgrade over 110 estate hospitals and provide a better healthcare service to the estate community. The ministry took over 12 estate hospitals to upgrade them at a cost of Rs. 50 million, a Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.

He said Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva handed over Haggala, Poonagala, Ulugalla and Saaraniya estate hospitals to the public after upgrading them with modern facilities including OPD, ETU, labour room, doctors quarters, etc.

MBBS doctors have been provided for all those hospitals. According to the spokesman, the ministry made arrangements to recruit minor staff to those hospitals from the estate community who had proper educational qualifications.

The main objective of taking over estate hospitals is to ensure a quality healthcare service to the estate community.
