The Labour Relations and Manpower Ministry yesterday launched Tamil
language courses for its officers in Colombo in a move to reinforce the
Government's ongoing strategy for the development of the Northern
Province, Uthuru Vasanthaya.
Labour and Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratna yesterday said, the
Ministry has also introduced a number of employment creation and
promotion programs for those displaced in the North.
"We have conducted several job fares for the internally displaced
citizens in Mannar and Vavuniya districts to boost their livelihoods,"
he said. The Public Administration Ministry is the principal organiser.
Referring to Tamil language courses, the Minister said, the language
courses were launched in Colombo at the National Institute of Labour
Studies. Officers attached to Labour Ministry and its affiliate
institutions are to be trained to speak and write in Tamil under the
program, he said.
"The duration of the course is three months and it is primarily based
on enabling the officers to speak in Tamil," he said.
"The Tamil Language Training Program is expected to bolster
development activities taking place in the Northern Province under the
Uthuru Vasanthaya," the Minister added.
