Teacher assistants to get appointments in N-E
Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
Moves are under way by the Government to streamline the education
sector in the North and East, which was badly affected by LTTE terrorism
for over three decades, UPFA General Secretary and Education Minister
Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.
Under this initiative, appointments for teacher assistants will be
offered to suitable persons in the North and East. “These appointments
will be offered through a proper selection process which will be
implemented after the election. The same procedure followed in the rest
of the country for selecting teacher assistants will come to effect in
the North and East”, the Minister said.
The Education Ministry has planned to establish 75 computer centres
in 75 schools in the North and East. These computer centres would be
equipped with modern computers with latest technology.
The Education Ministry will also taken initiative to solve the
teacher shortage in the North and East.
Speaking on the recent issues about the question papers of the
mid-year term text, the Minister said there is no such question in
Jaffna. “There are five education zones that prepared examination papers
for the term test in Jaffna. Unlike the rest of the country, not a
single mistake in question papers is reported.
That is due to the dedication of the educationists who bear the
responsibility on the question papers. But most educationists who bear
the responsibility of preparing question papers in other parts of the
country haven’t showed their responsibility like in Jaffna”, the
Minister said.
