Bharti Airtel Lanka to invest $ 120 m to expand operations

Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. will invest US$ 120 million on its Sri
Lankan operations. Airtel has already invested US$ 250 million on its
first phase, said the CEO, Bharti Airtel Lanka, Amali Nanayakkara.

She was speaking at a function yesterday to mark Bharti Airtel
crossing one million revenue earning customers within 171 days in Sri
Lanka.
Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel Asia is
concentrating on providing mobile services while it looks forward to
provide fixed line and broadband services in the near future.
Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. will start operations in the Eastern
province within the next three months and will cater to the Northern
province in the near future considering customer requirements.
President, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel, Atul Bindal said that the
services could be provided cheaper if mobile service providers share
towers. He called upon the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission(TRC)
and the Government to encourage service providers to use the fast moving
technique of shared towers.
Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. offers a variety of tailor-made
facilities. Therefore, the management of Bharti Airtel (Pvt)Ltd. expects
to reach another one million customers this year.
Achieving the one million revenue earning customers has largely
attributed to Bharti Airtel Lanka’s innovative offerings as well as the
rapid expansion of its network coverage and distribution reach. The
President said that they would team up with any other service provider
if it was profitable.
