Gold smuggling bid thwarted

An attempt to smuggle 4.0 kilos of gold to Chennai, India by four Sri Lankan youth has been thwarted by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Air Port in Katunayake.

According to sources the haul of gold which the customs officers took into custody on Saturday evening, is valued at over Rs. 10 million.

They have also taken in to custody four youth in connection with the smuggling attempt and they are believed to be residents of Jaffna and Colombo. Investigations are continuing.
