Work
loaded
Sachi rushed in as fast as his legs could carry him, exclaiming, "I
tried to get here as soon as I could, but the traffic jam held me up."
Shaz who was busy scribbling and double-checking her copy stood up to go
for an urgent assignment.
"Ruwi, I hope it's done. I have to head off for an interview," Shaz
said to Ruwi who was engrossed on the dummy wondering where she could
place the articles.
Just before the Editorial clock hit 12pm, V3 were wiping the last of
the beads of sweat from their eyebrows knowing what pains they had to go
through to make it a smooth operation. The V3 trio took dynamic Demi
along to hunt for a place to have some grub. Out of the blue, Demi
called out to a lanky guy sporting a pair of sunglasses.
"Guys, this is Dylan, who was with me at my previous workplace. He is
now based somewhere else. Dylan, these are my closest companions at the
work: Shaz, Ruwi and Sachi." Demi did the formality with glee.
"Here why don't we get him there?", Shaz asked, batting her eye
lashes sixteen to dozen.
Ruwi nodded and luckily Dylan was free.
"How is your new job, sweety?" Demi questioned.
Sauntering along the pavement, Dylan said, "It's a difficult task to
handle your job when others don't chip into make sure things run
smoothly. Sometimes they expect me to work well before the deadline, but
it takes time to finally get it all in shipshape."
Shaz, who was eyeing some delicious mangoes from the fruit stall near
Lake House, added, "I have worked in several places, and I can
understand your feelings but, Dylan, don't worry, that's the way things
are in many places."
V3 made their way through the crowds to the WTC where they finally
went to their favourite hotspot. Sachi hung back to flip through some
novels at the bookstore near the entrance before adding, "People should
know their workload and they should make sure they do their work.
Problems arise when people don't take their jobs seriously making others
suffer".
Ruwi whose eyes diverted to the Jean Plaidy bookshelf said, "It's
another unfortunate thing that once you do your work to make sure things
don't fall apart, you get de-motivated when someone says that we could
have done the job better."
Of course, Dylan knew he couldn't turn into an octopus with eight
limbs to get things done by multitasking. He couldn't help thinking that
it is quite unfair of his bosses to expect him to perfect in every
matter.
Looking for a 'Hand Quail' greeting card, Shaz went on: "Obviously,
if there isn't support from others, the system comes apart because
nobody does their share of work which causes those at the top to bicker
at the system.
What I can't understand is that, no matter how hard you try, people
fail to see how much work you do."
Chirping her comment was Demi who was busy inquiring Dylan what he
would like to have. She added at length: "Big wigs take it out on small
wigs when they come across a minor problem but nobody accepts the blame
for their faults!"
"That is why people try high and low to look for a Government job -
because they don't have to work so much but the ones who do, get caught
in a rut", went on Sachi.
He also added "People should at least have a few kind words of
support for those who do something instead of giving them a cold
shoulder".
"If someone doesn't know how to do their job or don't find the time
for it, they should delegate it. They shouldn't stop the system, which
can be better if the right people do the job," Shaz sighted.
"True, we don't mean that we are better than other experienced people
but it would help if they give us the opportunity to make sure there are
no shortcomings," added Dylan who was helping Ruwi pick a good book.
Shaz, who was putting her widest smile to the bookshop salesman
considering that V3 spent so much time there hours on end without
purchasing anything said, "We love our jobs, don't we guys? We have
passion and drive to do our job without looking for anything in return."
"I agree. I'm not trying to boast but I have worked hours overtime
because I love my job", Dylan nodded.
Ruwi noted, "But always remember you should love your job no matter
what shortcomings may butt in. You should carry on with your loyalty to
the job and that will help live with your conscience."
With that, V3, Demi and Dylan went to the coffee shop near the
bookstore for, the aroma was too tempting to avoid.
As they grabbed five seats they noticed another customer, a Daily
News going through a page put together by V3. A smile was playing on his
lips as he liked a film review of a love story. What a motivation!
