Manju wins fly weight title
Sri Lanka's Bantam Weight unbeaten National champion boxer Manju
Wanniarchchi put up a splendid performance to win the fly weight title
at the 8th Annual Desert Showdown Invitational Amateur Boxing
Championships held in California, United States of America yesterday.
The 29 year old former boxer from Slimline BC who presently
undergoing rigorous training under a Russian Coach in United States put
a tremendous performance to reach the finals by defeating several states
and club amateur boxing champions in United States from preliminary
bouts.
He won the finals by a walk over as the defending champions of that
weight did not turn up for the finals.
This event drew the best amateur boxers from across North America for
intense competition, and over 600 men, women, boys and girls of all ages
competed at this tournament.
This meet facilitated the USA to groom boxers who are aiming for
Olympic glory. The boxers from three countries, mainly from Canada,
Mexico and Sri Lanka, outside the clubs in United State honored at this
tournament winning the titles of different weight classes. C.D. |
