Hotel Thilanka - Kandy

In close proximity to Udawattekelle:

Kandy hotels range from small guest houses to large hotels with five star and boutique options. This city by the lake is probably the only location in the world where a wildlife sanctuary is completely surrounded by the city.

View of Kandy city from the hotel pool

Most of the Kandy hotels take advantage of this natural splendour of lush tropical greenery. Kandy hotels can be located far away from the city of Kandy, but Hotel Thilanka is within walking distance to Sri Dalada Maligawa.

This hotel was started 25 years ago and today this three stars property has 75 rooms. The old wing is called 'Heritage Wing' and they have added new rooms to their 'Deluxe Wing' providing a very good view of the Kandy Lake.

From this hotel you have a very good view of Kandy city and you also can take a refreshing dip in the pool or lounge on the deck with the quaint town of Kandy stretched out before you like a picturesque canvas. The special advantage of this hotel is its being in very close proximity to the Sri Dalada Maligawa and within 10 minutes guests can reach there.

There are many excursions near the hotel and this is situated on the border of the Udawattakelle - another unique feature of this place. Trek into the wilderness of the nearby Udewattakelle or the many cultural hotspots and immerse yourself in local culture and history.

The ayurveda centre is faced to the Udawattekelle and it gives very good treatment for their guests. Hotel Thilanka is a tapestry of colours, like a rich, vibrant, Kandyan painting, adorned in hues of ruby reds, brilliant yellows, warm oranges. Elements of Kandyan tradition and culture, precious antiques, local arts and crafts and glass bowls of fresh lotus flowers make up its regal interiors.

A Traditional Brass oil lamp dangles from the ceiling and when lit, paints soft shadows on the bright walls. The Banquet Hall is ideal for any event and 350 guests can be accommodated. The Business Centre is well-equipped to meet all your corporate needs. "We recently opened a foot massage centre and it has very good demand from foreigners and Sri Lankans too," said General Manager Anil Perera.

Hotel Thilanka is perfectly situated for adventures and excursions. The Udewattakele is right next door and will keep the birdwatcher or trekker in you well satisfied. You can experience a bike ride around the Kandy lake, try mountain-climbing and you can enjoy a hike too.

From this hotel you can easily visit Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, Lankatileka Temple, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens as well as the Embekke Temple.
