Postal theft suspects brought to court

The eleven accused, all employees of the Postal Department who are
charged with having broke open the mail bags at the Postal Department
and removed several important documents including foreign drafts,
foreign letters addressed to Sri Lankans appeared before the Colombo
Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan Pilapitiya with the
documents.
After submissions by the defence counsel the Judge directed them to
appear before court again on September 30.
Earlier the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the
massive racket at the Postal Department filed plaint against eleven
accused charging them before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional
District Judge on several counts under Section 167 of the Penal Code.

Sarath Siriwardena, Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara and Shiraz Mohamed
Noordeen appeared for accused.
