President to lay foundation stone for Buddhist Academy

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Sri Lanka Buddhist Academy at the Pallekelle International Buddhist Centre premises at 10 a.m. today (July 23).

The proposed academy affiliated to the Maha Chulalankara University in Thailand will be administered by the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara said the President will also inaugurate the proposed degree and diploma courses to be conducted by the academy today. These courses would be conducted at the Pallekelle International Buddhist Centre until construction of the Academy buildings are completed. Already 22 foreigners have enrolled themselves for various degree courses at the proposed academy.

The Norwegian Government has provided one million US dollars towards the academy project he said.
