ASPI gains
The market continued to be positive with the ASPI gaining another 12
points (+0.5 percent) to close at 2,485.
The MPI, which tracks the CSE's most liquid stocks, gained 25 points
(0.9 percent) to close at 2,774. Turnover was Rs 658 million, with keen
interest seen in John Keells Holdings. JKH saw turnover of Rs 145
million, though the share closed down 25 cents at Rs 135.00. NDB Bank
generated turnover of Rs 35 million with the share closing up Rs 1.75 to
Rs 162.75.
Overseas Realty saw late interest with the share gaining 75 cents to
close at Rs 14.50 on turnover of Rs 22 million. Speculator favourite
Lanka Cement gained Rs 4.25 (+13 percent) to close at Rs 36.75 on
turnover of Rs 69 million. The company is now valued at Rs 6.4 billion.
Hotel Developers closed at Rs 130.50, down Rs 9.50. The company which
owns the Hilton Hotel is valued at a market capitalization of Rs 5.9
billion.
Aitken Spence closed at Rs 9.75 at Rs 639.75, while Richard Peiris
closed unchanged at Rs 36.00. Dialog Telekom closed at Rs 5.50 up 25
cents. Sri Lanka Telecom closed at Rs 47.50, unchanged from Tuesday's
close.
Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei up three quarter of a
percent while the Hang Seng Index lost 1.3 percent. India's Bombay
Sensex lost 1.5 percent and Singapore's Straits Times Index was down 0.1
