The Security Forces opened the Vavuniya-Horowpathana A-29 road for
civil traffic yesterday after a lapse of three years following the
victory of humanitarian operations in the North and the East.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said marking another
milestone after defeating terrorism, the Vavuniya-Horowpathana A29 road
was opened by the Security Forces in the morning.
"The A29 road was opened after three years which was closed due to
the LTTE threat," he added.
He noted that the LTTE had carried out a series of attacks on this
important road.
"Therefore, people had to make a detour to Trincomalee after reaching
Medawachchiya which was a long way for them," he added.
Brigadier Nanayakkara said that opening the A29 road will increase
the flow of civil traffic between Vavuniya and Trincomalee and improve
marketing possibilities.
It also help develop their living standards to a greater degree.
