The queen flora

Rippling in the breeze,
Hither shallow and thither deep,
Spreading far and wide,
From East to West
And North to South

The gentle green dragon
Cooks sumptuous meals,
With a recipe outstanding,
Beating the best of chefs,
So silently in the broad daylight
Lavishly aided by the sun:
The mighty source of energy,
To serve all and sundry;
Generous and benevolent.

Thou the epitome of compassion,
Serves everyone alike:
Feed the hungry,
Quench the thirsty,
Heals the sick,
Shelters the homeless
And the hand that harms thee.

My queen flora!
With beauty unquestionable
Thy floral - smile
Replete with magnanimity
Doth bewitch me.

A balm for my soul

My mind goes back
To the place I lived
Some years ago
Oh, it's wonderful
The loveliest sights
That pleased my eyes
Would never be soothing
My mind again.

I want to fly back
Whenever they flash upon my mind

Being fed up with things
That now I meet with
The memory of the lush green lands
Where we used to tread at day's end
Was really a balm for my soul.

The joy of strolling along
The pruned tea bushes
And hours and hours spent
On dipping in chilly water
Could never be faded away.

Isn't it really a blessing
The Sacred Hill, of which
We tried to have a glimpse
Over the misty hills
Every morning?

I think I'm born again
To feel the same
But from distance
Now in a crowded train.

But I wonder
If it can ever give
The spiritual peace
I experienced some years back
Amidst the mystique lands.

Happiness and Peace

Forget each kindness that you do, soon as you have done it,
Forget the praise that falls to you the moment you have won it.
Forget the slander that you hear, before you can repeat it.
Forget each slight each spite each sneer, wherever you may meet it.
Remember every kindness done to you, whatever its measure.
Remember praise by others won, and pass it on with pleasure.
Remember every promise made and keep it to the letter.
Remember those who lend you aid, and be grateful debtor.
Remember all the happiness, that comes your way in living.
Forget each worry, and distress, be hopeful and forgiving.
Remember good remember truth remember heavens above you.
And you will find through youth and age, that many hearts will love you.

Jak - Sun

A rare sweet Jak
Exhibited its uniqueness
Beyond horizons
Satisfying many a soul
With its sweetness.

The Sun with its rays
Bathed the jak
Providing nourishment
And protection
To grow well.

The jak with its sweetness
Healed the World' under the Sun
The Sun with its natural force
Helped jak spread its healing power.

The jak forgetting natural laws
Preferred to change its
Original colour and shape
To add possibly more beauty.

But alas !
The jak had a fall possibly for subordinate treatment
To its natural outlook
And made its journey so short.

The Sun is still shining with
Its regular force !

Tribute to our brave soldiers

Our Motherland Sri Lanka
'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'

The dream of 'a free country'
Has now become a reality
In the year '2009'; after 32 years

Now it's free of terrorism
Now it's free of war
Now it's free of fear
Now it's filled with peace and harmony

Belonging to one Country
Belonging to one Nation
Belonging to one Flag
Under one Leader
My heart and soul overwhelmed
With pride and happiness

Our brave and courageous soldiers
You have done a great job
For sake of the country as well as the people
Sacrificing to save us
And to regain our country
Even by losing your own lives
And your dearest families and your loved ones

We are indebted to you forever, dear soldiers
No words to thank you
We are very proud of you dear soldiers
Saluting you with our sincere thanks
And with our heartfelt blessings

Like a Lily

Like a Lily flower
So innocent and pure
She lived a life so humble
Yet so divine in all colour
of gentleness

I never got to know you grandma
That is why I miss you so
I wonder of all the
beautiful stories
That you could have told
us on a rainy day like today.

The delicious meals you
could have prepared for us
If only your were healthy
enough to tender on us...
How I wish that I had more
time to know you
But I know that my thoughts
are in vain.

We were not lucky to enjoy
Your love and your compassion
Just the way you lived a quite life
You passed away so silently

But my dear grandma Lily
I will always remember you
As a flower that changed my life
In an innocent way.

(In Memory of My Dear Grandmother Lily)

Bertholameuze Nisansala DHARMASENA.

Mission unaccomplished

No solider not now
You rest the gun or undo the saddle
'cause the mission is still
but half complete
No Soldier not now
you lose heart and high morale
though'ey toil in vain
to make you retreat
Yes soldier time it is
to make them all flee
Go get rid of
those blood - thirsty fleas
Hardened in battle
and armed to teeth
Rest not but fight
in the sea, air and underneath

Dengue

Her blood count is down
Said the nurse with a grim face
The mother looked much concerned
At her daughter writhing in pain

She is first in her class
A sprinter of repute
Groomed to be a leader
When she leaves school.

Her only child
Pretty as a picture at sixteen
Now with a sunken face
Struggling to breathe in a hospital bed.

What will she do
If her child dies
Run in the streets like 'Patachara'
Or find solace in Dhamma.

It is not the time to think
The time has come to act
My child will survive
She said to herself drawing courage.
