KYMCA awards ceremony today

The annual awards ceremony of Kandy Young Men's Christian Association
for the Indoor Games Festival will be held at the Kandy YMCA Hall,
Kotugodella Veediya, Kandy at 4.00 p.m. today.
President of the National Council of YMCAs of Sri Lanka Aruna Shantha
Nonis will be the Chief Guest.
Kandy YMCA which is over 100 years old is one of the oldest
institutions in the hill capital serving the sportsmen and sportswomen
in many ways.
Their forte has been always weight-lifting where they have won the
Senior and Junior National Championships on a number of occasions and
also fed the Sri Lanka national weight-lifting team with a number of
lifters. They also have a well equipped gymnasium.
Apart from weight-lifting, it has also done well at basketball, table
tennis, badminton, carrom, chess and many other sports. It has a
membership of nearly 1,000 and has thrown open its doors to sportsmen.
Playing a major role in the successes of the Kandy YMCA are President
Rev. Donald Fernando, Secretary Russel Ebert, Co-ordinating Secretary
S.A. Wijewickrema (a former Director of Sports of the Central Province)
and the energetic committee. |
