HC allows case withdrawal

Colombo High Court yesterday allowed withdrawal of a case filed against Nawala Nihal following the prosecutions submission that it was reported that Nihal had been murdered.

When the case was taken up before High Court Judge Sunil Rajapakse, Senior State Counsel Shanil Kularatne submitted the prosecution was informed that Nihal was murdered and an inquiry was in progress in that connection. The prosecution also stated that it was pointless of conducting the case any further and pleaded to allow to withdraw the indictment.

The High Court thereafter allowed to withdraw the case.

The Attorney General filed indictment before the Colombo High Court against K. D. Nihal Donald Wickramasinghe for possessing a pistol without licence at Nawala on August 01, 1997.

SSC Shanil Kularatne appeared for the Attorney General.
