Lankan escapes from custody in Jammu

A Sri Lankan national escaped from a police station in Jammu following which two cops were suspended yesterday, senior officials said.

Hussain Nafraz Nawaz, who was arrested in August last year for allegedly possessing contraband, on Thursday escaped from Canal road police station, they said.

Nawaz was to be deported back to Sri Lanka and was on Thursday shifted to police station on the directions of a local court in Jammu. Taking serious note of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Manohar Singh suspended Munshi Mushtaq Ahmed and a guard of the station. PTI
