Minister Jayaratne said the Sri Lanka exports industry stands on a
stable ground despite the collapse of financial institutes of Capitalist
countries.
He was addressing a ceremony after commissioning four water supply
schemes in Gampola at a cost of over Rs. 15 million.
Minister Jayaratne said the Government was keen to provide
infrastructure facilities on a priority basis and was trying to engage
people in the production process. The plantation industry is back on
track due to proper management techniques introduced by the present
Government. This is especially indicated in the tea, coconut and rubber
sectors, he said.
Acknowledging the contribution of tea smallholders to the tea
industry, the Minister said more than 74 percent of the country's tea
production is from tea smallholders.
"But the situation in the primary sector is different and is managed
without a profit.
"The Superintendents are responsible for this situation." |
