Visual and Performing Arts University Anniversary
A series of commemorative programs have been organized on July 13 and
14 to mark the fourth year celebrations of upgrading the Institute of
Aesthetic Studies to the University of Visual and Performing Arts.
An exhibition and series of visual arts seminars organized by the
Visual Arts Faculty of the university will be held at Albert Crescent,
Colombo on July 13 and 14 to mark this occasion. A musical show
organized by the Musical Faculty will be held at the Western Province
Aesthetic Centre on July 13 at 6.00 p.m. A dance show organized by the
Dance Faculty will be held at the same venue on July 14 at 6.00 p.m. The
University song and its official symbol will also be launched at a
ceremony at the Western Province Aesthetic Centre under the patronage of
UGC Chairman Prof. Gamini Samaranayake on July 14.
Creative writing contest award ceremony
The award ceremony of the All Island Creative Writing Contest - 2009
will be held today at 9.30 a.m. at auditorium of the Association of
Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha will be the Chief Guest.
The participants in the contest were G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E. (A/L)
students. The contest was conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
Doctors' wives meet
The Doctors' Wives' Association will hold a special meeting on July
12 (tomorrow) at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo at which Consultant
Opthalmologist Dr. Upali Mendis will speak on some common eye ailments
in the community.
The event will take place at 5.30 p.m. chaired by Association
President Chrissy Alloysius.
Anniversary celebrations
The 125th anniversary of the Public Service Mutual Provident
Association will be held today at 9.00 a.m. at the John de Silva
Memorial Theatre, Colombo 7.
Secretary and Treasurer D.L. Thilakaratne said an all-night Pirith
chanting ceremony will take place at the Association's Office Premises
at 155/5, Castle Street, Colombo 08, followed by an almsgiving the
following day morning.
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister and Deputy Finance
Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will be the Chief Guest.
Guru Poornima prayer
Bhajans and prayers and the release of the Swamiji and his Bhajans
will be held on July 12 (Sunday) from 5.30 p.m. at the Saraswathy Hall,
Bambalapitiya.
The Chief Guest will be retired Justice C.V. Vigneswaran. The program
is organised by Mandru Institute for Alternative Development and
Religious Cooperation.
Seminar
Colombo District Ahadiyyah Schools Federation has organized a seminar
for Mattegoda, Jayawadanagama, Nawala and Battaramulla Ahadiyya School
children.
It will be held on July 12 at 8.30 a.m. at the Gaffoor Hall, Zahira
College Colombo. Al Haj M. Fairoze Burah will be the chief guest.
