CIMA Global Business Challenge 2009 National Finals

The CIMA Global Business Challenge is an international competition designed to bring out the best in potential business leaders among young undergraduates. The competition consists of analyzing, reporting and presenting on a CIMA case study. Teams from all over the world; UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, India, China, Malaysia and Singapore are invited to participate in the preliminary round, where the winners from each country will compete in the final in Singapore.

All universities in Sri Lanka were invited to participate in the competition. From the entries received, four teams have been short listed to compete in the Sri Lanka national finals scheduled to be held on July 18 at CIMA Sri Lanka Division.

The teams qualifying are two teams from the University of Moratuwa and one team each from the University of Kelaniya and the University of Sri Jayawardenepura. The four short listed teams include Team ‘Achievers’ from the University of Kelaniya headed by M A M Azeem, Team ‘APEX’ from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura headed by Jithma. P. Vithanage, Team ‘Paradigm, from the University of Moratuwa headed by Channa Gunasekera and Team ‘Extreme’ from the University of Moratuwa headed by M.D.C.Y. Perera.

During the national finals, the teams will be expected to analyse and evaluate on a CIMA case study and present appropriate recommendations. The competition provides teams with the opportunity to test their financial knowledge and business analytical skills, whilst expanding upon their competitive ability.

The winning team will then go on to represent Sri Lanka at the Global finals in Singapore and compete with teams from UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, India, China, Malaysia and Singapore. The final is scheduled to take place on August 21.

Regional Director at CIMA Sri Lanka, Bradley Emerson said, “CIMA Sri Lanka is looking forward to hosting the national final of The CIMA Global Business Challenge in July. CIMA represents some of the high flying finance and business leaders in the world and currently has over 171,000 members and students in over 165 countries. This international competition has been set up to focus on the undergraduate population and to give them an early flavour of the business world.”
