Tharunyata Hetak to develop rugby in the North East

Namal Rajapaksa, the Chairman of the Tharunyata Hetak Organisation
said that they have a long term and systematic plan to develop rugby and
other sports in rural areas in Sri Lanka as well as in the Northern and
Eastern Provinces. He was speaking at the official trophy launching for
the President's Schools Rugby League - 2009 at the Rugby Union
Headquarters yesterday.

In fact I am very happy to render some service to uplift Sri Lanka's
Rugby standard as a former school player as well as a club player. The
Tharunyata Hetak Organisation attempts to do modern and creative work to
help the younger generation in the country.
"We are going to start training camps in Jaffna for Volleyball,
Cricket, Rugby and other sports and are hoping to train Tamil speaking
coaches in the North and East", said Rajapaksa.
Seven schools from seven provinces from the North and East
participated.
'Tharunyata Hetak' Organisation is the official sponsor for the
President's Schools Rugby League 2009.
Approximately 250 matches were played within a period of 10 weeks,
(25-30 matches per week) in which 1800 players participated.
Awards presentation will be held at Temple Trees under the patronage
of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
