Ceremony to fete war heroes
A ceremony to felicitate war heroes organized by the 2003 Group Old
Boys Association of Rahula College titled Ranaviru Uttama Pooja will be
held on July 5.
The day's proceedings will commence with a Dhamma desana delivered by
the Most Ven. Govrava Shastravedi Mawarale Bhaddhiya Thera of
Kuppiyawatta Jayasekararamaya, at Matara Bodhiya and will be followed by
donation of wheelchairs and crutches to disabled Forces personnel and
scholarships to children who have lost their fathers in the war, Bodhi
Pooja and a Pahan Pooja.
Vas Aradhanava
Vas Aradhanava of the Katina ceremony of the Buddhagaya Maha Vihara
of Dambadiva will take place on Esala Full Moon Poya day.
A team comprising Religious Affairs Co-ordinating Secretary to the
President, Ven. Getamanne Gunananda Thera, Ravindra Vanigasekera,
Basnayaka Nilame of Sankapala Rajamaha Viharaya, Sumith Palihawadana,
Executive Director, Shanthi Buddha Boomi Vandana Organization will leave
for Buddhagaya to extend the invitation for the Vas Pinkama.
The Buddhagaya Katina ceremony is organized by the Religious Affairs
Unit of the Presidential Secretariat, Maha Bodhi Society, India,
Deshamanya Ravindra Wanigasekera Foundation and Shanthi Buddha Boomi
Vandana Organization.
Rivi Dhamsara Vandanava at Buddhagaya, Dambadiva will be held on
October 30 and 31.
Seminar for N'Eliya journalists
A one-day seminar for journalists in Nuwara Eliya district organized
by the Government Information Department will be held on July 4 from
9.30 am to 4 pm at the District Secretariat Auditorium.
Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena will
be the chief guests.
Mihindu Perahera
The Mihindu Perahera of Sri Pushparama Temple, Kirulapone will parade
the streets on July 4 from 7.30 pm.
Esala dansela
The Esala dansela organized by the State Printing Corporation
employees for the fifth consecutive year will be held near the old
hospital, Anuradhapura on July 6 from 10 am .
Muslim Majlis celebration
The annual Muslim Majlis celebration will be held at St. Mary's
Convent, Matara on July 6 at 2.30 pm.
Export Development Minister Cegu Isadean will be the chief guest.
Richmond past prefects meet
The inaugural meeting of the All Past Prefects Association of
Richmond College, Galle will be held on July 5 at the College Main Hall.

Meditation program
A meditation training program conducted by Ven. Diyasenpura Wimala
Thera of Kanduboda Meditation Centre will be held on July 5 at 2.30 pm
at the Narahenpita Abhayarama Temple.
Offering of robes to 100 monks
The National Crafts Council (NCC) in collaboration with the All
Ceylon Handicrafts' Association will offer 100 robes to 100 Buddhist
monks on July 11 at 3.00 p.m. at Battaramulla Janakala Kendraya. The
event has been organized to thank President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence
Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chiefs of the Forces and Police and
security forces personnel for freeing the country from terrorism.
Sil at Royal
The annual sil program of Royal College will be held on July 03
(today) at the college premises.
A dhamma desana in Tamil will be conducted for the benefit of Tamil
students. This event is organised by Teacher-in-charge of the Buddhist
Fellowship Y.M. Jayasuriya under the patronage of Ven. Thumbowila
Dhammarathana thera.
Epasinghe on Buddhist channel
Premasara Epasinghe will discuss over the Buddhist Channel on the
Significance of Esala Poya on July 3 (Today) and it will be telecast on
Dialog TV at 9.00 a.m, 3.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. This program will also be
specially telecast on TNL today at 3.00 p.m.
Ranaviru Upahara, book launch
A Ranaviru Upahara ceremony and a book launching organised by the
Siyoda Social Service Foundation will be held at the Sri Dharmodaya
Pirivena, Wellawatta on Esala Poya day July 6 at 3 p.m. The program
includes the presentation of 30 wheel chairs and other sanitary ware to
disabled soldiers and the launching of the book Sathipatana Kavya
desanawa compiled by T.S. Sirisena and edited by Ven. Kahapathwilagama
Ariyananda Thera. Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera, Ven. Watinapaha Somananda
Thera, Ven. Wetara Mahinda Nayake Thera, Ministers A.H.M. Fowzie and
Prof. Tissa Vitharana and Sunil Handunnetti, M.P, will be among the main
invitees.
Communist Party 66th anniversary
A special lecture and a get-together will be held on July 3 (today)
at Sugiswara Hall, Dr. N.M. Perera Mawatha, Colombo 8 to mark the 66th
anniversary of the Sri Lanka Communist Party, Deputy Organiser L.R.
Stephen said.
The lecture will be delivered by Constutional Affairs and National
Integration Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera.
Greenwood College Islamic Day
The annual Islamic Day of Greenwood College, Ambatenna, Kandy will be
held at the College Assembly Hall on July 5 (Sunday) at 9.00
a.m.President's Counsel Faizer Musthafa will be the Chief Guest while
the guest speaker will be As-Sheik, Rauff Zain, Principal A. Abdul Ahad
said.
Bio-fuel seminar
A Seminar on Bio-Fuels organized by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
will be held on July 22 at its headquarters 341/22, Kotte Road,

The Annual General Meeting of the Old Boys Union of St. Mary’s
College, Dehiwala will be held on July 26 at 10.00 a.m. at the Union

A college evening titled ‘Colours at Sundown’ organised by the Sri
Lanka Malay Association (SLMA) will be held at the Grand Ballroom of The

Siripala de Silva in conversation with Colombo National Hospital
(CNH) Director Dr. Hector Weerasinghe after opening the new CT
Scanner and MRI Scanner installed at the CNH. These new machines
are worth Rs. 250 million and were funded by the Saudi Arabian
