Pushpadana cager champs

Pushpadana Girls College, Kandy 'B' became champions at the Kandy District Girls Schools Basketball Championship organised by the Kandy District Basketball Association when they beat Colombo International School Kandy 30-22 in the finals played at Azar College, basketball courts Akurana on Sunday.

At the breather Pushpadana girls led 12-8.

The finals turned out to be a battle with the CIS cagers fielding a very young side giving the winners a tough fight before conceding victory.

For the winners skipper Nirosha Gonagala and the sharp shooting Shalini Weerasinghe excelled.

Shalini Weerasinghe of Pushpadana Girls College 'B' who collected 10 points was adjudge the 'Best player' of the finals.

Earlier in the semi finals Colombo International schools had the satisfaction of edging out Pushpadana Girls College 'A' 11-6 after very closely contested battle which could have gone either.

In the second semi final Pushpadana girls college 'B' had a fairly comfortable passage into the final defeating St. Anthony's Girls College, Katugastota 20-10. Shalini Weeraisnghe played well for Pushpadana 'B' collecting 09 points.
